BRUNSWICK, Maine - Former Maine high school standout Toby Martin has been named assistant coach for the Bowdoin women's basketball team.
Martin, a 2005 graduate of Maranacook High School and two-time Maine All-State selection, fills the position vacated by K.J. Krasco, who was named the head coach at Middlebury College earlier this summer.
A three-time Kennebec Valley Conference Player of the Year at Maranacook, Martin played Division II basketball at Franklin Pierce University where she helped lead the Ravens to the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Championship and a pair of NCAA Regional titles. In 2009, she was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team as Franklin Pierce advanced to the national championship game.
After graduation, Martin played professionally in Germany for three years for the Qtsu Dragons, twice leading the league in scoring. She comes to Bowdoin after two years as an assistant coach at the University of Southern Maine, where she served under head coach Gary Fifield. During her time with the Huskies, she helped lead the team to a pair of 20-win seasons, including an NCAA Tournament berth in 2013.
