Women's Basketball Bounces Worcester State Behind Prue's Record-Setting Night

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior Kirsten Prue set a new school record with 14 assists as the Polar Bear women's basketball team never trailed in a 76-41 non-conference win over Worcester State Monday evening.

The Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 8-0 this season while the Lancers fall to 3-6 on the year.

Prue's 14 assists break the former record of 13 held by Cathy Hayes '92 that had stood since 1989. Shannon Brady converted several of those assists, scoring 20 points on 10-12 shooting from the field to go with six rebounds. Megan Phelps had 12 points for the Polar Bears while Maddy Fulton pitched in nine off the bench for Bowdoin.

Kiesha Jones led Worcester State with 12 points. Emily Barrett had nine rebounds for the Lancers, who also received seven points off the bench from Natasha Gonzalez.

Bowdoin jumped to a 17-1 lead and never looked back, extending their lead to 24-3 and carrying a 36-20 into halftime. Worcester State was able to cut into the Bowdoin lead early in the second half, trimming the advantage to 13 points, 44-31, following a Jones three-pointer with 15:34 to go.

The Polar Bears answered with a quick 10-0 spurt over the next three minutes, extending their lead to 54-31 on a Brady lay-in with 12:05 to go.

Bowdoin hit 50.8% of their shots for the game, and held a 45-27 advantage on the glass. The Polar Bears owned a 46-12 edge in the paint and earned 29 points off 23 Lancer turnovers.

The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday night when they host Maine-Farmington at 7:00 p.m. The Lancers will return to action against Springfield at WPI on December 13 at 7:30 p.m.
