Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season With Victory at Conn. College
NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team closed out its regular season with a 72-59 win over Connecticut College on Sunday evening.
The Polar Bears (13-10, 4-6 NESCAC) will hope to earn a bid when the regular season is concluded this week. The Camels fall to 9-13 (3-6 NESCAC) with the loss.
One day after surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career, Kaitlin Donahoe capped her regular season by pouring in a game-high 20 points and dishing out six assists. Sara Binkhorst connected on four three-pointers to finish with 19 points to go with five rebounds. Shannon Brady had 11 points and six caroms while Selena Lorrey finished with nine points off the bench. The Camels were led by 12 points off the bench from Kayleen Murray. Tara Gabelman finished with 10 points for Connecticut College.
Bowdoin never trailed in Sunday's contest as Donahoe nailed a three-pointer just 21 seconds into the game and the Polar Bears stretched their lead to 17-6 after eight minutes of play following consecutive three-pointers from Lorrey. The Camels were able to cut the lead to six points, 30-24, with a minute to go in the half. However, Bowdoin scored six points in the final sixty seconds, including a trifecta from Kristen Prue to give the visitors a 36-24 lead at the break.
The Bowdoin lead stayed in double digits until late in the second half when a surge by Connecticut College trimmed the lead to six points with 52 seconds remaining. The Polar Bears hit 7-8 from the stripe over the remainder to seal the win.
The Polar Bears were outrebounded 39-36 but connected on 44% of their shots compared to 34% for the Camels, including a 9-18 effort from long range.
