Henrikson Leads Polar Bears to Conference Win at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - Jill Henrikson scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Bowdoin women's basketball team to a 57-50 win over Hamilton College in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Jan. 6.

Henrikson notched a double-double with 11 rebounds, and was credited with three steals. Amy Hackett added 11 points for the Polar Bears. Allie Piscina scored eight points and posted four blocks, and Alexa Barry added two steals and three blocks.

Madie Harlem led the Continentals (5-6 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) with 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Kim Goidell and Dani Feigin chipped in 12 points apiece, and Goidell added a team-high nine rebounds. Eliza Howe scored eight points and pulled down eight boards, and Claire Hunsinger blocked three shots.

Howe hit a jumper with 14:25 remaining in the first half to give Hamilton its last lead of the game at 7-5 lead. Bowdoin responded with a 16-3 run, capped by a Sara Binkhorst layup, to take its largest lead at 21-10 with 5:52 left in the half. Feigin hit a jumper with 13 seconds remaining to pull Hamilton to within 28-21 heading into halftime.

Hackett hit a 3-pointer 17 seconds into the second half to give the Polar Bears a 31-21 lead. But Goidell hit a jumper, Howe converted a layup, Harlem drained a jumper and Goidell sank a 3-pointer to cap a 9-0 run that pulled the Continentals to within 31-30 with 14:39 left.

Bowdoin (8-3, 1-0) led by single digits over the next eight minutes, and stretched its lead to eight when Henrikson converted a three-point play with 6:58 remaining to make it 44-36. But Hamilton rattled off seven straight points to pull back within one at 44-43 with 5:36 left. The Continentals didn't get any closer, and Bowdoin went back up by 11 with just over a minute remaining.

The Polar Bears held Hamilton to just 28 percent shooting from the floor, and held a 48-41 rebound advantage. Bowdoin shot 34.5 percent from the floor, and committed 11 turnovers to Hamilton's 16. The Polar Bears lead the all-time series 7-1.

Bowdoin hosts Emmanuel (Mass.) in a non-conference game on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m.
