NEWBA Announces Postseason Honors
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College women's basketball players Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine), Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) and Jill Anelauskas (Medfield, Mass.) have all been honored by the New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association in postseason awards announced by the organization. In addition, Pouravelis has been chosen to play in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Game slated for Sunday, April 9 at Babson College. Tip-off will be 1 p.m.

Flaherty, Pouravelis Named All-Americans
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior forward Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) has earned First-Team All-American status by both the WBCA and D3Hoops.com in selections announced this weekend. In addition, senior Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) was named a Fourth-Team All-American by D3Hoops.com. Bowdoin finished their season with a record of 27-3, reaching the 'Elite 8' of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth straight year.

Pouravelis, Flaherty and Pemper Earn NESCAC Honors
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College's Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) and Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) have been named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference's Women's Basketball First-Team in selections announced last week. In addition, Pouravelis grabbed her third straight Defensive Player of the Year award while Stefanie Pemper was named NESCAC Coach of the Year by her peers.

Ticket Information for NCAA Sectional
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College Athletic Department has announced ticket information for the upcoming Women's Basketball NCAA Sectional this weekend at the University of Southern Maine. Bowdoin will play Mary Washington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10, while Southern Maine will face Bridgewater at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's Sectional Final is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.

Southern Maine to Host Sectionals
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team will play their sectional games in Gorham next weekend as the NCAA announced sites for the Sectionals on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears (26-2), ranked fifth in the latest national poll, will play eighth-ranked Mary Washington at the University of Southern Maine's Warren G. Hill Gymnasium next Friday, March 10. The winner will face the victor of the Southern Maine/Bridgewater State game.

Berne, Pouravelis Named Co-Players of the Week
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team won their sixth-straight NESCAC crown on Sunday in Lewiston and have been rewarded with Co-Player of the Week honors. Senior captain Justine Pouravelis (Old Orchard Beach, Maine - left in photo) and sophomore Marisa Berne (Falmouth, Maine - right), both of Catherine McAuley High School, shared the conference's weekly honor thanks to their outstanding play in both of last weekend's games.

Bowdoin to Host NCAA Regional
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team will host a First and Second-Round Regional in the NCAA Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium. Tickets for Friday's games will go on sale at the Athletics Office beginning Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children. Bowdoin students, staff and faculty are free with ID, but will need a ticket to gain admission to the games. One ticket is good for both contests on Friday.

Anelauskas Named Rookie, Player of the Week
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College first-year forward Jill Anelauskas (Medfield, Mass.) has collected a pair of weekly honors for her play in two Polar Bear victories last weekend. Anelauskas has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week and the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association Rookie of the Week.

Bowdoin Beats Division II Team in Puerto Rico
BAYAMON, P.R. - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team defeated Division II Univerity of Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Thursday, 74-66. The Polar Bears played the game as part of a winter break trip to the island nation and will return to action Saturday at home against Colby College.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team climbed in the latest national rankings released on Tuesday. The Polar Bears, currently 11-1 this season, are ranked second in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and stand third in the D3Hoops.com rankings.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior forward Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for her performances in a pair of key regional victories last week. Flaherty leads Bowdoin with a 15.9 points per game average this season.

Bowdoin Ranked Third in Preseason Poll
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team is ranked third in D3Hoops.com's Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Polar Bears are coming off a 26-3 campaign that saw them reach the NCAA's 'Elite Eight' for the fourth straight year- the best of any team in Division III women's basketball. Defending national champion Millikin is ranked first in the poll, followed by Randolph-Macon, the Polar Bears, Southern Maine and Scranton in the rankings compiled by the nation's most respected Division III hoops source.

Hockey Team Ranked in Preseason Polls
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Both Bowdoin College hockey teams are ranked in preseason national polls released by U.S. College Hockey Online, the nation's top source for collegiate hockey information. The Polar Bear women are ranked seventh in the nation, while the men stand 10th overall in the first polls of 2005-06. Winter sports teams begin practice on Tuesday, November 1.

Women's Basketball Makes WBCA Honor Roll
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team finished the 2004-05 season with a 26-3 mark and their fifth straight NESCAC Championship. The Polar Bears proved to be just as excellent in the classroom last season, ranking 20th in the WBCA's Academic Honor Roll.

Veileux Hired as Assistant Coach
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College has announced the hiring of Julie Veilleux as an assistant for the 2005-06 women's basketball team. Veilleux will take over for Courtney Mattingly, who took an assistant coaching position at St. Bonaventure University. The Polar Bears have a 108-9 record over the past four seasons- the best of any program in Division III.
