GAME TWO BOX SCORE

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin and Husson softball teams split a doubleheader on Saturday at Pickard Field in Brunswick with the Polar Bears taking game one, 7-2, before the Eagles prevailed in game two, 4-2. The contests marked the home-openers for the Polar Bears, who stand at 13-8 overall this season. Husson is 3-8 overall on the year.

Bowdoin's Clare Ronan stole the show at the dish in the opener, going 2-3 with four rbi's. The junior catcher rapped a run-scoring double in the first inning to give Bowdoin a 2-0 lead and added a three-run blast to left-center in the third after Husson had tied the contest in the top of the frame. Caroline Dewar had a pair of hits and runs for the hosts while Shavonne Lord scored twice and picked up and rbi single. Karen Reni earned the victory with a complete game showing, tossing seven innings and allowing just four hits while striking out six. Caitlin LeBorgne took the loss for Husson after allowing five earned runs and nine hits over 3.1 frames.

Husson bounced back in the nightcap, scoring three times in the third inning to take the lead. Sarah Risser sparked the rally with a two-run double that hugged the left-field line. Bowdoin was able to cut into the lead thanks to a Clare Ronan solo home run in the fourth and a sac fly by Molly Nestor in the fifth. But an unearned run in the sixth provided Husson with an insurance run that sealed the victory. Megan Richard earned the win in the circle for Husson by allowing five hits over 4.1 innings. Nicole Sargent earned the save by going the final 2.2 and permitting just one hit to lock down the Polar Bears. Julia Jacobs was tagged with the loss for Bowdoin after allowing three earned runs in seven innings with four strikeouts.

Bowdoin will return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader at Brandeis.
