BRUNSWICK, Maine – A pair of Bowdoin softball seniors have been recognized as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region selections.
Senior Lauren O'Shea (West Roxbury, Mass.) was named First Team All-New England in addition to her First Team All-NESCAC accolades handed out early in the month.. A second baseman, she led the Polar Bears to the NESCAC Championship Game with a walk-off hit in a win over Amherst in Game 5. She hit .388 and slugged .672 with 27 RBIs and 41 runs scored, while also stealing 19 bases.
Bowdoin senior Claire McCarthy earned Third Team All-New England recognition following her final campaign behind the plate for the Polar Bears. McCarthy was also named Defensive Player of the Year by the NESCAC and received All-NESCAC honors. McCarthy led the NESCAC in hits (52) and ranked fourth in the league in RBIs (33). In the field, she threw out six runners in nine stolen base attempts against her and contributed 21 assists.
