LEWISTON, Maine - Adriane Krul had a pair of doubles and accounted for the game's only run as Bowdoin's Melissa DellaTorre outdueled Bates' Kelsey Freedman in a 1-0 win for the Polar Bear softball team on Friday.
Bowdoin (23-9, 6-4 NESCAC East Division) extended its win streak to 10 games. Bates (7-12, 1-6 NESCAC East Division) will play a doubleheader at Bowdoin tomorrow, beginning at 2:00 p.m., to complete the rivals' three-game series.
With the teams knotted at 0-0 through five innings, Krul hit her second double of the game to right-center to lead off the sixth. She moved to third on a ground ball, and scored on Casey Correa's sacrifice fly to right.
DellaTorre allowed Bates just two hits in the game, both in the third inning. Molly Brown hit a one-out single up the middle, and Mary Lewis moved her to second on a two-out bunt single. DellaTorre induced a ground ball to end the threat. DellaTorre (10-5) allowed two walks and had seven strikeouts.
Freedman walked six batters but allowed just three hits while collecting four strikeouts.
