CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bowdoin softball team got back on track with a pair of wins Sunday in Florida.
The Polar Bears defeated William Paterson 11-3 before downing UMass Boston in a 4-1 game. Bowdoin improved to 6-2 on the season as William Paterson dropped to 1-3 and UMass Boston fell to 2-1.
Julia Geaumont racked up two singles, a double, five RBI's, and had the game-clinching hit to end the game in the fifth inning against William Paterson. Toni DaCampo had a pair of singles and scored three runs, while both Gen Barlow and Katie Gately had a single, double, and scored a pair of runs. Tricia Thibodeau earned the win for Bowdoin allowing just three hits.
Bowdoin and UMass Boston traded runs in the opening inning as Dimitria Spathakis scored off a sacrifice fly by Gately to right field. Bowdoin caught Samantha Hemstock stealing in the bottom of the first, but Sue Killilea was able to come in and score from third. Victoria Rusch scored the go-ahead run after an errant throw by the first baseman off Adriane Krul's sacrifice bunt. Rusch scored two of Bowdoin's four runs, spurred by a pair of two-hit performances by Spathakis and Barlow.
Bowdoin will return to action Monday against Oswego St. and Babson.
