Coach Pizzo's Report - April 16

The Polar Bears competed in two regattas this past weekend including the Owen, Mosher, Knapp Trophies hosted by the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York and the President's Trophy hosted by Boston University.

Down at BU, the regatta was limited to racing on Saturday only because of very difficult weather conditions on Sunday.  Six races were completed in each division in a great easterly breeze that ranged from 5-15 knots.  The Polar Bears improved their starts and their upwind decision making throughout the event and finished 7th overall.  Claire Havig '21 and Nora Cullen '18 sailed A-division with Kelsey Slack '21 and Isabelle Austin-Green '19 competed in B-division.

Down at Kings Point, conditions were windier and wavier compared to Boston.  Fifteen races were completed in each division.  The Polar Bears come on strong on Sunday and moved up to sixth place overall.  Christian Filter '20 and Louisa Lindgren '19 finished tied for third in A-division and Alden Grimes '21 sailing with Julia Adam '21 and Martie Ogle '18 finished seventh in B-division.

This upcoming weekend, the Polar Bears will compete in the Women's New England Championship for the Jerry Reed Trophy at Coast Guard.  The team will also compete in the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup at MIT.
