Coach Pizzo's Report - April 11

The Polar Bears competed in two regattas this past weekend including the Southern Series at URI and the New England Team Race Champs hosted by Connecticut College.  At URI, sixteen races were completed in light to moderate breeze.  Claire Havig '21 and Eliza Jevon '21 sailed A-division with Kelsey Slack '21 and Isabelle Austin-Green '19 sailed B-division.  The Polar Bears won three of the six races completed on Sunday and finished fourth overall.

The first conference championship took place this past weekend at Connecticut College.  Twelve of the best team race teams from New England competed at the event.  The Polar Bears finished with a 6-5 record after the first round robin and qualified for the top 8.  After strong wins against Boston College and Connecticut College, the Polar Bears lost several tight races near the finish and ultimately ended up two wins outside of the final qualifying spot for nationals.  The event was incredibly close.  The Polar Bears finished 8th overall.  Harrison Hawk '18, Emily Gonzalez '20, Christian Filter '20, Louisa Lindgren '19, Marie Bergsund '20, Matt Kaplan '19, Jake Griffin '18, Nora Cullen '18, Hannah Konkel '20, and Matt Safford '20 competed for the Polar Bears.

This upcoming weekend the team will be competing in the Women's Presidents Trophy at BU and the Owen Trophy at Kings Point.
