Coach Pizzo's Report - October 30
The Polar Bears competed in three fall conference championships this past weekend including the Schell Trophy at MIT, the Urn Trophy at Harvard, and the Nickerson Trophy at Tufts.
Ten races were completed in each division at Tufts. Conditions were typically shifty on Mystic Lake all weekend and it took the team some time to adjust to the Larks which have much bigger mains and jibs compared to our FJs. The team improved throughout the event and finished 12th of the 18 teams. Alden Grimes, Julia Adams, Rowan Byrne, Kelsey Slack, Noah Lipnick, and Elijah Berger sailed for the Polar Bears.
The Schell and Urn were hosted by MIT and Harvard respectively on the Charles River in classic Charles River conditions. Ten races were completed in each division at each regatta on Saturday. At the Urn Trophy, the team struggled a bit on the starting line and were inconsistent with their results The team improved a bit on Sunday and finished 13th overall. Ellis Price, Caitlin Tardio, Eve Allen, Martie Ogle, Claire Havig, and Nora Cullen competed for the Polar Bears.
At MIT, the Polar Bears battled all day on Saturday, finishing in 9th overall but had themselves in a good spot to move up on Sunday. Unfortunately on Sunday, the team's results were inconsistent and the team fell to 11th overall. Matt Kaplan, Emily Gonzalez, Harrison Hawk, Hannah Konkel, Louisa Lindgren, Matt Safford, Jake Griffin, Marie Bergsund, and Christian Filter competed for the Polar Bears.
The team will have this upcoming weekend off but will compete in the Match Race Nationals November 10-12th.
