BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College sailing team will compete at the 2017 Intercollegiate Sailing Association's Sperry Women's Championship beginning on Tuesday, May 23 in Charleston, S.C.
The Polar Bears get underway at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the first day of semifinal competition. Bowdoin is slotted in the Eastern Semifinals, an 18-boat field that will race over two days in which the top nine will advance to the finals on May 25-26. All races will be held in Charleston, Harbor and the even will be hosted by the College of Charleston and the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association.
BOWDOIN SAILING NOTES
- This will be the fourth consecutive appearance (and fourth overall) for Bowdoin in the Sperry women's national championship.
- The Polar Bears qualified for the championship thanks to a tenth-place finish at the Jerry Reed Trophy in late April.
- Bowdoin finished 13th at women's nationals in 2014, 17th in 2015 and 11th last spring.
- The Polar Bears will be looking to grab their first-ever top-ten showing at the championship and are ranked 16th in the latest national rankings released last week.
