Coach Pizzo's Report - April 24

The Polar Bears competed in two regattas this past weekend including the Admiral's Cup at the US Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point and the Jerry Reed Trophy for the Women's New England Championship hosted by Brown.

At the Admiral's Cup, racing was limited all weekend because of a lack of wind.  Two races were completed in a three divisions but only one race was completed in each division on Sunday.  The Polar Bears finished 7th of 18 team overall.  Competing for the Polar Bears was Matt Kaplan, Marie Bergsund, Jack McGuire, Hunter Moeller, Louisa Lindgren, Matt Lyons, Matt Safford, and Christian Filter.

Conditions were much better for racing at Brown.  On Saturday, 10 races were completed in each division in a cold and wet northerly breeze.  The Polar Bears were hanging tough after the first day of racing just two points behind Harvard in the final qualifying spot for nationals.  On Sunday two races were completed in a light northerly breeze before a long wind postponement.  A great seabreeze filled in at the end of the day, allowing for three additional races to be sailed in each division.  The Polar Bears battled the whole time and finished tied with Harvard for the tenth and final qualifying spot.  The Polar Bears won the tiebreaker and qualified for Women's Nationals hosted by the College of Charleston May 23-26.  Competing for the Polar Bears was Mimi Paz, Nora Cullen, Ellis Price, Dana Bloch, Isabelle Austin Green and Eve Allen.

Next weekend is the Coed Dinghy Champs hosted by Boston College.
