Coach Pizzo's Report - March 20

After a week of training in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Polar Bears began their spring regattas with two events, the Vietor Trophy at Coast Guard and the Graham Hall Team Race at the Naval Academy.  Racing was limited at Coast Guard due to cold and very windy conditions on Sunday.  Seven races were sailed in each division.  The team struggled on the starting line but had some decent races.  The team finished 14th and 15th at the event.  Sailing for the Polar Bears was Emmett Ulian, Isabelle Austin-Green, Emily Gonzalez, Ellis Price, Chester Jacobs, Caitlin Tardio, Christian Filter, and Nora Cullen.

The Graham Hall Team Race was the major team race interconference regatta of the weekend and featured many of the nations best teams.  After the first round robin, the Polar Bears finished with a 10-5 record and qualified for the final 6.  The Polar Bears struggled a bit to maintain their winning combinations in the final six but had a great regatta, finishing 6th overall.  This is the best ever finish for the Polar Bears at this event.

This upcoming weekend the Polar Bears will compete in the Friis Trophy at Coast Guard, the Admiral Moore Team Race at SUNY Maritime, and the Central 2/BU Team Race at Boston University.
