Polar Bears Place Fourth In First-Ever Bowdoin Women's Invite
Coach Pizzo's Report - October 8
This past weekend, the Polar Bears were competing in two regattas, the Hewitt Trophy hosted by Dartmouth College and the Bowdoin Women's Invite. It was another tricky weekend for breeze throughout New England. At Dartmouth, Lake Mascoma was glass all day on Saturday and racing was cancelled for the day just after 3 pm. On Sunday, we have a shifty South Easterly breeze that allowed for 10 races in each division. Jack McGuire '17 and Charlotte Williamson '15 sailed A division and Erin Mullins '16 and Tess Lameyer '16 sailed B division. The team had great boat speed and has improved a great deal with our starting and finished 5th of 17 teams competing, finishing just fifteen points out of second place.
At home, Bowdoin hosted its first ever Bowdoin Women's Invite. Seven teams sailed combined division races in tough conditions that ranged from the S to the NW. Courtney Koos '16 and Olivia Diserio '16 sailed A division and Mimi Paz '17 and Kim Dempsey '14 sailed B division. Fifteen races were sailed over the two days with the Polar Bears finishing 4th of 7 teams, just six points out of second place. In the combined fleet, Courtney Koos '16 and Olivia Diserio '16 finished tied for first with 74 points.
This weekend the Polar Bears are hosting the 6th Annual Nicholas J. Barnett Trophy. The team will also compete in the Storm Trysail Intercollegiate Regatta down at Larchmont YC.
