Sailing Team Competes in Regattas at Navy and Tufts Over Weekend

Coach Pizzo's Report - March 25

The Polar Bears competed in two major interconference regattas this past weekend including the Owen  Trophy hosted by the Naval Academy and the Duplin Trophy hosted by Tufts.  Both events were important in preparation for our spring championships.  Down at Navy, conditions were breezy on Saturday allowing for 12 races to be completed in each division.  Michael Croteau '15 sailed with Charlotte Williamson '15 and Sarah Fiske '13 in A division while Kaylee Schwitzer '15 split time with Tom Peabody '14 in B division and both sailed with Mae Speight '13.  After sixteen races, the Polar Bears were winning the 19 team event but ultimately finished 5th at this very competitive regatta.

The Polar Bears had a young women's team comprised of Lizzy Hamilton '15, Julia Rew '16, Ayaka Okawa '14, Kim Dempsey '14, Elise Engquist '15, Erin Mullins '16, and Courtney Koos '16 competing at the Duplin Trophy.  Conditions on Saturday were very windy which made sailing the Larks and team racing very difficult.  The Poalr Bears finished 8th of 9 teams but gained some very valuable experience sailing the Larks on Mystic Lake which should help in preparation for the Women's New England Championship which will be held at Tufts later this spring.
