Bowdoin Sailing Claims First Victory of Season at Hewitt Trophy

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College sailing team celebrated Family Weekend with a victory at the Hewitt Trophy hosted at Bethel Point Sailing Center.

The Polar Bears finished first of fifteen teams at the even with Pete Edmunds and Julia Rew sailing A-Division with Kaylee Schwitzer and Ayaka Okawa competing in the B-Division.  Both pairs finished second overall respectively to lift Bowdoin to the victory. The result was particularly impressive considering the the conditions were difficult both days with heavy rain, heavy current and a very shifty breeze. 

A big weekend is on slate for the Polar Bears as the women are heading to Navy for the Women's Fall Interconference Regatta which will feature the top women's teams in the country.  The top coed team will head down to Rhode Island for the Moody Trophy, which is the top coed interconference regatta.  The Polar Bears will have a big boat team heading to sail in the Storm Trysail Regatta at Larchmont YC while the remainder of the squad will host the Barnett Trophy at Bethel Point.
