2010 Bowdoin Sailing Season Preview
Head Coach: Frank Pizzo (third season)
Leading Returners: Co-captains D.J. Hatch and Coco Sprague, Katie Doble, Billy Rohman, Jeff Goodrich, Ben Berg, Mae Speight
2009 Recap: The Polar Bears' Co-Ed won the New
England Dinghy Tournament last spring while the women's team
finished tenth in the highly-competitive women's Wick Shrew Regatta
at Coast Guard.
2010 Preview: Pizzo's squad returns a wealth of talent,
including Sprague, who will serve as either the top crew or skipper
for the women's team. Doble will look to follow up on an impressive
first year as Bowdoin's top female driver. Hatch will lead a deep
co-ed squad while Rohman and Goodrich will skipper the men's team.
The Polar Bears will also look to get contributions from several
strong crews, including Berg and Speight.
Events to watch include the conference championships, hosted by
Connecticut College for the Women's Urn Trophy and by Coast Guard
for the Coed Schell Trophy. Bowdoin is hosting three major college
events this fall in our new fleet including the Hewitt Trophy
October 2-3, the Nicholas Barnett Trophy October 9-10, and the
Atlantic Coast Tournament November 13-14.
By the Numbers: 18. The Polar Bears boast a new
fleet - 18 new boats, delivered just a few days ago, built by
LaserPerformance. The addition will allow Bowdoin to host more
events at their picturesque home site, Bethel
Point.
