Torda Wins Individual Crown at Maine State Cross Country Meet

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Both the Bowdoin men's and women's cross country teams placed second at the Maine State Championship hosted at Pickard Cross Country Course on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Torda highlighted the men's race for Bowdoin, becoming the first Polar Bear state champion since Coby Horowitz in 2013. Sarah Kelley led the way for Bowdoin with a third-place finish in the women's race.

Men's Meet Highlights

  • Bowdoin finished 1-2 in the meet, with Torda winning in a time of 25:25.3, a massive 17 seconds ahead of the field.
  • Sean MacDonald ended second for the Polar Bears in a time of 25:42.7.
  • Bates claimed the title however, earning five of the top-ten finishers in the championship.
  • Bowdoin also got strong performances from Naphtali Moulton (26:16.3) in eighth, Andrew McGowan (26:35.7) in 14th and Connor Rockett (27:03.3) in 20th.

Women's Meet Highlights

  • Sarah Kelley led the way for Bowdoin with a third-place showing in a time of 18:12.5.
  • Bates claimed the championship with five runners in the top eight.
  • Along with Kelley, Caroline Shipley (5th, 18:35.5) and Julia O'Rourke (7th, 18:47.6) also earned top-ten finishes.
  • Anne McKee placed 12th (19:21.3) and Abigael Osmanski was 14th (19:26.9) to round out the top Bowdoin competitors.
