BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's cross country team, on the strength of a pair of strong finishes at the Open New England Championships and Maine State Meet, has vaulted to 11th in the latest Division III rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association.
The Polar Bears, who had been hovering the 20's early in the season, jumped to #11 following a record-breaking 6th-place finish at the Open New England Meet and a runner-up showing at the Maine State Championship. Coby Horowitz was the top Division III finisher at New England's, finishing sixth individually. Sam Seekins won the Maine State race as the Polar Bears were edged by Bates, who sits fourth in the latest poll.
In fact, the NESCAC boasts five of the top 17 squads in the poll as the Bobcats and Polar Bears are joined by Tufts (#8), Williams (#13) and Middlebury (#17).
That sets the stage for a dramatic race on Saturday, October 27 as Bowdoin will host the 2012 NESCAC Cross Country Championships at Pickard Field. Complete information on the race can be found here.
