Men's Cross-Country Edges Bates, Women Fall to Bobcats

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine - The Bowdoin College cross-country teams
split with Bates in a season-opening race at Pineland Farms on
Saturday. The men's team defeated Bates edged Bates 101-111 while
the women fell to the Bobcats 90-127. The meet scored the top 10
finishers for each team to determined the final team score.
Despite Bates taking three of the top four finishers in the men's
race, the Polar Bears depth carried the day. Colman Hatton led the
squad with a third-place showing in 26:37 and Bowdoin took eight of
the top 12 finishers overall to earn the win. Stan Berkow, Thompson
Ogilvie, Colin Ogilvie and Scott Longwell were a crucial part of
that contingent, collecting places five through eight.
Lindsay Hodge paced the women's team with a runner-up finish in
19:52. Bowdoin earned three of the top five spots overall, as
Olivia Mackenzie and Christina Argueta placed fourth and fifth,
respectively. Bates, however, finished 10 of the top 15 to capture
the victory.
