Men's Swimming Looks Ahead to NESCAC Championship This Weekend at Williams

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's swimming and diving team will compete at the 2012 New England Small College Athletic Conference championship this weekend at Williams College.

The three-day meet, now in its 12th year, begins on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Samuelson-Muir Pool in Williamstown, Mass. with preliminary heats every morning followed by championship races in the early evening. Competition will get underway each day with preliminary heats at 10:00 a.m. Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 5:50 p.m. Saturday, and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Polar Bears recently completed a very successful 5-1 dual-meet campaign that included wins over NESCAC foes Bates, Colby, Wesleyan, and Trinity. The Polar Bears will have several competitors in contention for conference crowns this weekend, led by senior Nathan Mecray. The Cumberland native currently owns the best times in the conference in the 50 free (20.88), 100 free (46.81), 50 breaststroke (25.99), 100 breaststroke (57.65) and 100 individual medley (53.39). Mac Routh owns the conference's best time this year in the 50 butterfly (23.14) while Chris Granata has the second-best time in the 200 butterfly (1:55.64) this winter.

Tickets for the event are $6 per session or $30 for an all-session pass for adults and $2 per session for children and students or $10 for an all-session pass. Doors will open 90 minutes prior to the heats and finals. No pre-sale of tickets will be available, as all tickets will be sold at the door.
