Squash Trio Earn All-Conference Recognition
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Three Bowdoin College squash players have
been recognized as All-New England Small College Athletic
Conference performers in honors announced on Thursday. Junior
Lauren Gesswein (Fairfield, Conn.) was named First-Team All-NESCAC
on the women's side while Senior David Funk (Short Hills, N.J.)
collected First-Team recognition for the men's team.
In addition, senior Palmer Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) was named a
Second-Team All-NESCAC performer for the men's squad.
Gesswein was promoted to First-Team after being a Second-Team
All-Conference choice in 2008-09. After returning from a fall
semester abroad, Gesswein posted a 13-4 mark at the number one
position for the Polar Bears, including a seven-match winning
streak in Bowdoin dual matches late in the season.
Funk also moved up from Second to First-Team honors following a
15-6 dual-match record playing at the #1, 2 and 3 positions on the
ladder. Playing at the #2 spot exclusively down the stretch, Funk
went 5-1 over Bowdoin's final six matches.
Palmer Higgins earned seven wins in during the season for Bowdoin,
competing against some of the top players in the world as the #1
singles player for the Polar Bears. Four of Higgins' wins came in
the month of January, as Bowdoin picked up key mid-season wins to
improve their national ranking.
