Polar Bears Sink Mules with Senior Day Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Zach Danssaert tallied two assists and a goal as the Bowdoin men's soccer team scored three in the second half to down Colby 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears extend their win streak to six and improve to 8-2-3 (5-2-2 NESCAC) on the season after dropping Colby to 4-9-0 (0-9-0 NESCAC). Bowdoin leads the all-time series 39-26-12, while collecting its second consecutive win over the Mules.

Bowdoin netted its first goal of the contest at 12:34 as Hunter Miller inserted the corner kick. Ben Brewster volleyed the ball to the right side to put Bowdoin a head 1-0. The Mules answered back with a goal ten minutes later as Keith Chernin buried an open net rebound to even the score.

The Polar Bears broke the tie, and permanently took the lead, at 10:01 into the second half. Brewster kicked a short pass over to Danssaert in the box, who quickly moved it on to Matt Dias Costa on the right side. Dias Costa bested Colby goalie Cody Funkhouser with a shot to the upper right corner. With 12 minutes remaining, Danssert headed a cross in the box and collected his own rebound, before feeding the ball to Sam White who sent the ball into the lower corner. With the Polar Bears up 3-1, Danssaert netted a goal of his own. Bowdoin goalie Noah Safian drop kicked the ball across the midfield where Danssaert was waiting to beat his defender and earn the fast break from the top of the box. His shot into the top left corner rounded out Bowdoin's scoring for the day.

Bowdoin finished with a 14-10 edge in shots and 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Safian made four saves for the Polar Bears, while Funkhouser made five stops.

Bowdoin concludes the regular season with a game at Tufts beginning at 3:00 PM on Wednesday. Colby hosts Bates for a 3:00 PM matchup on October 30.
