Jones' Two Scores Pace Men's Soccer To Win Over Bates

BOX SCORE

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Eddie Jones scored a pair of goals to lead the Polar Bear men's soccer team to a 4-0 triumph over Bates College on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to 2-1 (1-1 NESCAC) this year while the Bobcats dip to 0-2 (0-2 NESCAC).

Jones got the Polar Bears on the board with some nifty footwork in the box just 12 minutes into the game. A deflection off of Bates goaltender Greg Watts came to the foot of Jones, who buried the game's first tally. Bowdoin added a second score just six minutes later when a collision in the box resulted in a Bates foul and a penalty kick opportunity for the hosts. Call Nichols netted the ball to the lower-right corner to give Bowdoin a 2-0 lead into intermission.

The Polar Bears held the Bobcats scoreless for the remainder, and added a pair of late goals. Hugh Fleming placed a nice touch forward to Jones for a score in the 84th minute and Carl Woock headed his first goal of the season just a minute later to put the game on ice.

Watts ended with five saves for Bates while Dan Hicks earned his first shutout of the campaign with three saves for Bowdoin.
