Men's Lacrosse Scores Nine Man-Up Goals in Blowout of Norwich

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team scored a school-record nine man-up goals in an 18-4 win over Norwich on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-1 with the win while the Cadets fall to 0-5.

Bowdoin converted on 9-9 with the extra man, including five-straight in the third period to put the contest out of reach. Franklin Reis ended with four man-up goals and two assists. Will Wise had three goals and a helper while Brett Kujala also had three scores. Conor O'Toole added two goals and two assists in the win.

Norwich was led by two goals apiece from Ian Mendoza and Mike Lavery.

Tied at 2-2 seven minutes into the contest, Bowdoin closed the first quarter with back-to-back goals from O'Toole and Wise before rolling off four-straight markers in the second quarter to hold a 8-2 lead at intermission.

The Polar Bears took advantage of a trio of Norwich penalties in the third quarter - including a three-minute major - to score five times and put the game away. Reis scored three consecutive on the advantage as Bowdoin led 13-3 after three periods.

Connor Laughlin made two saves and allowed four goals for Bowdoin in 46:54 before giving way to Peter Mumford (2 saves, 9:25), Matt Netto (0 saves, 2:41) and Eric Zelina (0, 1:00). Mark Paradiso made 11 saves and permitted eight goals in the first half for Norwich. Ryan Fecteau made ten stops and allowed ten goals in the second half for the Cadets.

Rob Talcott won 14 of 19 faceoffs for Bowdoin in the victory. Cody Dussault had two caused turnovers and Ben Brewster had a caused turnover and four ground balls defensively for the Polar Bears. Peter Troiano and Timothy Seibert led Norwich with two caused turnovers and two ground balls each.

Bowdoin will return to action this Saturday with a key NESCAC home game against Middlebury (1:00 p.m.). Norwich will travel to play at Albertus Magnus Saturday (1:00 p.m.) in its next outing.
