BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior Camil Blanchet (Swanzey, N.H.) has been named as one of eleven nominees for the 2018 Hockey Humanitarian Award.

The award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.

In addition to being a forward on the ice for the Polar Bears over the last four years, scoring 30 points in 79 career games, Blanchet has been an exemplary member of the Bowdoin community. Currently the McKeen Center (Common Good) representative to the Bowdoin Student Government, he is responsible for all McKeen Center communications with the student body. He has taken the initiative on numerous community service efforts including the hockey team's recent Cerebral Palsy Fundraiser Game, a fundraiser in conjunction with the football team in support of the American Cancer Society, and arranging 24 volunteers to assist with the "Race the Runway" half-marathon, a local road race in Brunswick that benefits numerous organizations, including Veterans No Boundaries and the Coastal Humane Society, among others.

Blanchet has also been a point-person for the "Breaking the Bubble" initiative on campus, where he recruited 25 student-athletes to take part in community service leadership training and help lead their respective teams' community involvement efforts. He is also a 2018 Class Agent, a member of the Bowdoin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and serves on the Student Affairs Committee, a subcommittee of the Bowdoin Student Government responsible for oversight of clubs and organizations on campus.

A graduate of Deerfield Academy, Blanchet is an Academic All-NESCAC honoree majoring in Neuroscience.

Finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The 2018 recipient will be honored in a ceremony on Friday, April 6 as part of the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in St. Paul, Minnesota. Information on the other nominees can be found here.
