Men's Hockey Heads to Utica For NCAA Quarterfinal Game Saturday Night at 8:30

UTICA, N.Y. - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team will battle Utica in an NCAA Quarterfinal game at the Utica Auditorium Saturday night. Face off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Fans can purchase tickets online at Tickets will also be sold on the night of the game, if available and will be $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Live Stats and video will be provided for the contest. Utica's local radio affiliate will also be broadcasting the game. Click the links above for coverage.

Saturday's contest marks the first meeting all-time between these two programs.

The winner of Saturday's game will head to Lake Placid, N.Y. next weekend for the NCAA Division III Final Four at Herb Brooks Arena. The winner will square off against either St. Norbert or Wisconsin - Eau Claire at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15. The NCAA Division III championship game will be at 7 :00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.

Bowdoin, an automatic selection to the NCAA Tournament, won the New England Small College Athletic Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over Williams on Sunday, March 3. The Polar Bears are making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance overall (also in 1996, 2002, 2010 and 2011)...Bowdoin advanced with a convincing 5-2 win over UMass Darmtmouth on Wednesday. The Polar Bears out-shot the Corsairs 56-22 in the game...Bowdoin head coach Terry Meagher is in his 30th season at the helm of the Polar Bears, accumulating a record of 498-227-49 (.675) the sixth-most wins of any active coach in Division III hockey. The Polar Bears are the only team in Division III ice hockey to boast two 300-win coaches, in Meagher and his predecessor, legendary Sid Watson (326)...The 2012-13 season has been one of the most succesful in the storied history of Bowdoin ice hockey. Bowdoin earned its highest-ever ranking in the Division III poll (#2) and, with its win over UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, established a new school record for wins in a season (23)...The Polar Bears had several individuals singled out for post-season awards, led by Daniel Weiniger and Timothy McGarry, who earned First Team All-NESCAC selections. Weiniger and Ollie Koo, a Second Team All-NESCAC choice, were named semifinalists for the Joe Concannon Award...Bowdoin boasts one of the most prolific offenses in Division III this season, averaging 4.32 goals per game to rank fifth in the nation. The Polar Bears' power play has propelled the attack; their 34 power play goals and 27.2 conversion rate are sixth in Division III hockey. Bowdoin's combined special teams (power play + penalty kill rate) is ranked fifth nationally...Although the Polar Bears enjoy playing in the friendly confines of Sidney J. Watson Arena in Brunswick, they have not shied away from competition on the road this winter. Bowdoin is 9-0-1 in road games this season and has a 13-game unbeaten streak on the road (11-0-2) dating back to February 2012.

ABOUT THE PIONEERS (20-5-1) - Statistics - Results
The Pioneers, who are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, set a new program record for wins in a season (20)… Utica earned a share of the ECAC Men's West Regular Season Title en route to earning the top seed in the conference tournament before bowing out in the semifinals … Junior Nick Therrien set a new school-record with 18 wins in net and Head Coach Gary Heenan was named ECAC West Coach of the Year for the third time in his career...Sophomore Louie Educate, who was named the conference's player of the year, leads the ECAC West and ranks 13th nationally with 35 (17 goals, 18 assists) points on the season… He needs two more goals to tie the College's single-season record of 19 set back in 2009-10 by former Utica All-American Tim Coffman… UC is 11-1 this season when Educate scores at least one goal.
