Cardinals and Polar Bears Play To Deadlock in Men's Hockey
MIDDLETOWN, Conn – The Bowdoin men's hockey team skated a 3-3 tie in Sunday's game against Wesleyan.
The third ranked Polar Bears (17-2-2, 11-2-2 NESCAC) were looking to avenge an overtime loss to the Cardinals (9-8-4, 5-6-4 NESCAC) earlier in the season.
Bowdoin scored first in tonight's contest at 8:22 into the opening period. Connor Quinn netted his seventh goal of the season after taking the feed from Ryan Collier and John McGinnis. Despite a couple of power play opportunities for Wesleyan, the Cardinals were unable to score during the first. Bowdoin lead at the end of the first period 1-0.
Just 1:28 into the second stanza Bowdoin doubled its lead with Ollie Koo's 12th goal of the season. Koo took the feed from Quinn to net the Polar Bears' second of the night. After successfully killing five Wesleyan power plays, Bowdoin surrendered its first goal of the game to Keith Buehler with four minutes remaining. The extra man goal was Buehler's 18th goal of the season. The Cardinals wasted no time before scoring their second goal of the game just 38 seconds later. Ryan White beat the Bowdoin defense to even the score at 2-2.
Wesleyan continued its scoring run with its third straight goal of the evening. The Cardinals 3-2 goal came just 33 seconds into the final period off John Guay's stick. Bowdoin finally found its offensive rhythm with a quick rebuttal goal from Robert Toczylowski less than two minutes later.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock over the remaining 23 minutes of regulation and overtime play. Steve Messina made 27 saves for the Polar Bears, while Wesleyan's Nolan Daley had 37 stops.
