BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin junior Harry Matheson (Kingston, Ont.) has been named as the New England Small College Athletic Conference's Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week.
Matheson sent home three goals in a perfect 2-0-0 weekend for Bowdoin. After scoring in the third period of his team's 4-1 triumph at Williams on Friday, the forward found the back of the net two more times in a 3-0 victory at Middlebury on Saturday. His first game just 43 seconds into the contest and proved to be the winner. It was Bowdoin's first win at Middlebury since 1993.
The junior forward currently leads the team and ranks third in the NESCAC with nine goals and 14 assists this season.
Bowdoin is ranked #3 in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll released on Monday, equaling the team's highest-ever ranking in the poll from the 2001-02 campaign. The Polar Bears (15-1-1) received three first place votes in the most recent rankings and improved from the #4 spot last week. The Polar Bears currently sit atop the NESCAC standings at 10-1-1.
The Bowdoin men's hockey team returns to the ice on Tuesday as they host a non-conference game against University of Southern Maine at 7:00 PM.
