Shearer-Hardy, Weiniger Collect NESCAC Honors
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College men's ice hockey players Kyle
Shearer-Hardy (Montreal, Que.) and Daniel Weiniger (Warren, N.J.)
have been honored in conference awards handed out by the New
England Small College Athletic Conference on Thursday.
Shearer-Hardy was named First-Team All-NESCAC while Weiniger netted
Rookie of the Year honors.
The duo helped lead the Polar Bears to a first-place finish in the
NESCAC regular season standings and hosting rights for this
weekend's NESCAC Championship.
Junior Kyle Shearer-Hardy earned First Team honors for the first
time in his career. A member of the 2009 Second Team, Shearer-Hardy
not only leads the Polar Bears in offensive production while
patrolling the blue line but is also the top scoring defenseman and
ranks fifth among all conference skaters with a career-high 27
points (8-19-27). The dynamic defender has excelled at special
teams as well this season, notching 11 assists on the power
play. Heading into this weekend’s NESCAC tournament,
Shearer-Hardy has recorded at least one point in eight of his last
nine appearances, scoring four goals and dishing out 10 assists.
For his career, Shearer-Hardy has 25 goals, ranking fifth all-time
among Bowdoin defenseman.
Rookie of the Year went to Bowdoin first-year forward Daniel
Weiniger. The third leading scorer for the Polar Bears despite
missing five games to injury, Weiniger has an even 11 goals and 11
assists for 22 points, second among NESCAC first year players. The
third Bowdoin player to collect NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors,
Weiniger's 11 goals rank fourth all-time among Bowdoin first-years
while his 22 points rank among the top-10 showings all-time by a
Bowdoin rookie.
Bowdoin will return to action Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. when
they face Hamilton College in the NESCAC Semifinals. The Polar
Bears are ranked seventh in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll.
