Belanger, Coyne Honored by NSCA
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College senior ice hockey players
Katie Coyne (Madison, Wis.) and Sebastien Belanger (Deauville,
Que.) have been named All-American Athletes by the National
Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). Nominated by
Bowdoin Strength & Conditioning coach Jim St. Pierre, the
program recognized 239 student-athletes from 165 school across the
country for their dedication to strength training and
conditioning.
Coyne, a captain on the women's ice hockey team, played in 102
career games and scored 69 points on 37 goals and 32 assists.
"Katie's dedication to our dry-land strength and conditioning
program allowed her to make significant performance gains on and
off the ice," according to St. Pierre. "She is a two-time captain,
serving as a terrific leader and role model for her teammates. She
is always positive and her work ethic can be seen in all aspects of
her life."
Belanger was a captain of the men's ice hockey team and saw action
in 92 games, scoring 14 goals and 22 assists in his career.
"Sebastien's commitment to our dry-land strength and conditioning
program is unwavering and sets a great example for his teammates,"
said St. Pierre. "He successfully balances the academic demands of
the College and the athletic demands of a highly-competitive ice
hockey program."
The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award is in its 29th
year. Executive Director Robert Jursnick adds, "The advantages of
strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate
athletics. These student-athletes attest to this understanding and
are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication."
