Middlebury Wins Bowdoin Golf Invitational, Polar Bears Place Seventh

Dustin Biron was Bowdoin's top performer this weekend thanks to a two-day score of 155

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Middlebury College men's golf team pulled away from the field to take the 2013 Bowdoin Invitational at Brunswick Golf Club Sunday.

The Panthers carded a two-day team score of 605 to beat second-place Husson (616) by 11 strokes. The Panthers had three of the top five individuals in the tournament. Southern Maine (633), Endicott (634) and Williams (637) rounded out the top-five. The host Polar Bears posted a score of 644 to take seventh place as a team.

Individually, Southern Maine's Tom Murphy maintained his one-stroke lead to take medalist honors with a 148 (71-77) to edge Husson's Greg Pike (149) and Middlebury's Rob Donahoe (149).

The host Polar Bears were led by Dustin Biron's 155 which was good enough for sixth-place individually. Thomas Lilly was 16th (159) and Matt Mathias was 26th (161) for Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears will return to the links next weekend (Sep. 14-15) at the Maine State Tournament on Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
