BRUNSWICK, Maine - Sparked by 14 second-half points from Jack Simonds, the Bowdoin College men's basketball team overcame a seven-point second-half deficit to defeat Bates on Thursday evening in Morrell Gymnasium, 70-63.

The Polar Bears snap a brief two-game losing streak and improve to 7-2 overall. The Bobcats fall to 4-2 on the campaign with the setback.

Game Highlights

  • A back-and-forth first half saw the visitors carry a 34-31 lead into intermission thanks to ten points from Tom Coyne.
  • The teams were tied seven times in the first period, including six lead changes. Neither squad took more than a four-point lead at any time in the opening twenty minutes.

  • Bates was able to answer with a 9-2 run, closing to within a single point at 58-57 when Nick Lynch hit a running layup with 3:41 to go.
  • Bowdoin held the Bobcats scoreless for the next 2:12 and went on a 5-0 run, capped by a Simonds layup, to take a commanding six-point lead with 1:41 to go.
  • Late buckets by Simonds, Rucker and a dunk by Hugh O'Neil in the final minute clinched the victory for the Polar Bears.
