BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team had five players in double figures in a 82-51 non-conference win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
The 22nd-ranked Polar Bears remain unbeaten at home this season (8-0) and improve to 14-1 with the win. The Owls drop to 7-7 with the loss.
John Swords dominated for Bowdoin, connecting on 10 of 11 shots from the field to finish with 20 points, while grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking four shots. He led a balanced attack that saw Lucas Hausman and Keegan Pieri each finish with 11 points. Matt Mathias had 10 points and seven assists while Andrew Madlinger also pitched in 10 points for the Polar Bears.
Chase Vicaire led the Owls with 14 points. Michael Warner had 11 and Thiago Conceicao had 10 for Presque Isle.
Bowdoin jumped to an 11-4 lead and never looked back, extending their advantage to 43-25 at halftime thanks to 63% shooting from the field. The Polar Bears extended their lead to as many as 34 points in the second half en route to the victory.
Bowdoin had a 50-19 edge in rebounding and finished at 57% shooting for the game. Presque Isle hit on 31% of its shots in the loss.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday afternoon with a key NESCAC home contest against Colby at 4:00 p.m. The Owls will face Eastern Maine Community College Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
