CASTINE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team had five players in double digits as the Polar Bears took a 92-44 win over Maine Maritime Tuesday night.
Bowdoin remained perfect at 8-0, while the Mariners dropped to 1-7. Keegan Pieri led the Polar Bears with 16 points, Lucas Hausman added 15, Matt Palecki 13 and John Swords and Neil Fuller 10 each. Palecki added 11 boards to his 13 points to record a double-double. Garrett Libby paced the Mariners with 16 points.
The Mariners took their only lead of the game when Libby opened the game with a three. Matt Mathias quickly evened the game with a trey for Bowdoin, sparking a 17-1 run that gave the Polar Bears a 17-4 lead when Grant White hit a jumper with 13:23 left in the opening half. Maine Maritime got as close as nine, 17-8, when Brad Reed connected from downtown with 11:18 left in the first.
Bowdoin used a 15-0 scoring run, spanning five minutes to lead 35-9 with 4:57 left before the break. Six different players scored in the run for the Bears, led by Hausman's three points. Bowdoin led 44-14 at halftime. Pieri's jumper at 18:58 in the second gave the Bears a 49-18 advantage and the Bowdoin's lead never dipped below 30 the remainder of the game.
The Polar Bears will close out their first semester with a home game Friday evening against Maine-Farmington at 7:00 p.m.
