John Swords Named NESCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

John Swords is averaging 16.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game this season

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin junior John Swords (Sudbury, Mass.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Swords led the Polar Bears to a 3-0 week as the team improved to 7-0 for the first time in program history.

A seven-foot center, Swords posted three double-doubles last week, averaging 20.0 points and 12.7 rebounds and connecting on mind-boggling .903 percent of his shots (28-31). He scored 25 points on 12 of 13 shooting with 16 caroms in a mid-week win over Southern Maine before scoring 18 points to go with 12 rebounds against Bates and recording 17 points and 10 boards against Colby. Swords shot 8-of-9 from the floor in both games. He also blocked five shots over the three wins.

Bowdoin will return to action Tuesday night at Maine Maritime (7:00 p.m.). The Polar Bears will close out their fall semester with a home contest Friday night against Maine-Farmington (7:00 p.m.).
