BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team overwhelmed Maine Maritime Academy in an 84-51 non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears move over .500 with their second straight win and stand at 3-2 this season. The Mariners drop to 0-4 on the year with the loss.
Andrew Madlinger led all players with 17 points, including 3-6 from beyond the arc while point guard Bryan Hurley scored 11 points and had 12 assists, tied for the 10th-most in a single game in program history. Maximilian Staiger also saw double figures with 12 points while Matt Palecki pitched in 11 off the bench for the Polar Bears.
Maine Maritime was paced by 14 points from Paul Campbell and 13 points with seven rebounds from Andy Ball.
Bowdoin left little doubt by shooting 58% from the field in the opening stanza and using a 19-4 run midway through the period to take a commanding 44-25 lead at the break. The Polar Bears finished the game at a 55% clip and committed just ten turnovers in the game while holding a decisive 39-20 edge on the boards.
The Polar Bears will look to extend their winning streak at rival Bates College on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. They will follow that with a home game against Colby on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.
The Mariners will host Husson in a conference game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
