Men's Hoops Downs Western New England For First Win of Season
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2012-13 campaign in a 72-63 win over Western New England in the third-place game of the Eastern Connecticut State Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (1-1) will return to action on Tuesday evening when they play at Saint Joseph's at 7:30 p.m.
Andrew Madlinger was red hot from the field, shooting a perfect 6-6, including 3-3 from three-point range to finish with 15 points. Keegan Pieri led the Polar Bears with 17 points and six rebounds while Bryan Hurley tossed in 11 points and dished out ten assists in the win. Damon Alston had a game-high 20 points for Western New England.
Bowdoin held a 37-34 edge at halftime and extended its lead to as many as 15 points in the second half before Western New England chipped away late. The Polar Bears owned a slight 38-37 edge on the boards, but hit on 46.4% of its shots for the game while holding their opponents to just 35% for the contest.
