BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team will travel to Williamstown, Mass. this weekend attempting to make NESCAC Tournament history. The Polar Bears (14-9, 3-6 NESCAC) are seeded eighth in the 2011 NESCAC Men's Basketball Championship and will look to knock off top-seeded Williams (23-1, 9-0 NESCAC) in the quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Williams will provide a live video webcast of the game as well as live statistics. Tickets for Saturday's game will be available at the door in Williamstown and will be $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. Students and children will be $2.
Williams boasts the league's top offense will begin its quest for a fifth conference crown when Bowdoin comes to town for the team's first-ever tournament meeting. The Polar Bears were in danger of failing to qualify for this year's tournament heading into last Saturday, as Friday's 62-60 setback at Connecticut College meant that Saturday's match at Wesleyan would be a winner-take-all contest for the final spot. Bowdoin held a 16-point advantage with 6:53 to play but watched as the Cardinals whittled it away, yet still managed to hang on for a 72-71 victory.
Williams bested Amherst, 74-70, on the final day of the season to clinch first place in the conference. The Ephs took the lone regular season match back on Feb. 4 by an 85-66 score but the teams have split the last six meetings overall dating back to 2005-06.
