Noucas, Shearer-Hardy Named All-Americans by NSCA
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College seniors Anna Noucas
(Portsmouth, N.H.) and Kyle Shearer-Hardy (Montreal, Que.)
have been named All-American Athletes by the National Strength and
Conditioning Association. In its 32nd year, the NSCA All-American
Program recognizes and honors student-athletes' dedication to
strength training and conditioning.
A captain for the Bowdoin women's volleyball team, Noucas
co-captained the team to an 18-11 record and its best-ever finish
(7-3) in NESCAC play. A defensive specialist, Noucas was among the
team leaders with 195 digs this fall.
"Anna's off-season efforts are to be applauded," says Bowdoin
Strength and Conditioning Coach Jim St. Pierre. "She has made
consistent improvement every year in all aspects of her physical
preparation for volleyball. I always emphasize the importance of
relative strength versus absolute strength. Anna is pound-for-pound
one of the strongest female athletes on campus and is a wonderful
leader by example for her teammates."
Kyle Shearer-Hardy was a senior co-captain and two-time First Team
All-American player for the Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team.
One of the finest defenseman in the nation, Shearer-Hardy led the
Polar Bears to their first-ever NESCAC Championship and first-ever
NCAA Tournament victory last winter.
"Kyle has proven to be the most effective captain of a sport team
tht I have ever had the opportunity to work with. It doesn't get
any better for a strength and conditioning coach than having
arguably the best player on your team be the best off-season
athlete on your team. Heading into his senior ice hockey campaign,
Kyle set personal best efforts in seven out of seven tests!"
Alan Kinniburgh, NSCA's Executive Director adds, "The advantages
of strength and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate
athletics. Thesestudent-athletes attest to this understanding and
are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication."
