BRUNSWICK, Maine - Results are posted for the seventh annual Phil Soule 5K "Phlail" that was held on Sunday, October 21 at Bowdoin's Pickard Field Cross Country Course.
The event featured an excellent tournout with 131 finshers. Eric Sofen '07, of Seattle, Washington, took first place in a sprint to the finish with a time of 16:56. Morgan Lake-Adams of Portland was the top women's finisher in a time of 20:36. Mike Costello '04 of New York City was the best alumni lineman with a pace of 21:06.
A beloved figure at the institution, Phil Soule coached football at Bowdoin College for 39 years. He was an assistant coach in lacrosse, squash, and track in addition to football, and also served stints as the head coach for the baseball and wrestling teams. One of the founders of the Maine Rowdies running club, Phil was a competitive runner. Marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons were his favorite events. Phil's philosophy was to live each day to its fullest. The intent of the 5k "Phlail" is to live up to that belief.
