BRUNSWICK, Maine - Chris Kibler of Bath and April Wernig ’97 of Portland came away with first place finishes in the 2011 Phil Soule 5K “Phlail” held Sunday at the Pickard Field Cross Country Course. This year's event included over 100 entrants.
A beloved figure at the institution, Phil Soule coached football at Bowdoin College for 39 years. He was an assistant coach in lacrosse, squash, and track in addition to football, and also served stints as the head coach for the baseball and wrestling teams. One of the founders of the Maine Rowdies running club, Phil was a competitive runner. Marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons were his favorite events. Phil's philosophy was to live each day to its fullest. The intent of the 5k "Phlail" is to live up to that belief.
