Bowdoin To Host Sports Legacy Institute Clinic on May 13
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College Athletic Department, in
conjunction with the Maine Concussion Management Initiative, will
host a Concussion Clinic Program with Chris Nowinski of the Sports
Legacy Institute (SLI) on Friday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Pickard
Theater. The 90-minute presentation is free admission and will
discuss the latest in cutting-edge research, management and
prevention of head injuries from one of the expert voices in the
field.
The mission of the Sports Legacy Institute is to advance the
study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in
athletes and other at-risk groups. The SLI Concussion Clinic was
developed by Dr. Robert Cantu, Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery
at the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Nowinski,
Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy
at BUSM, former All-Ivy Harvard football player and author of Head
Games: Football’s Concussion Crisis.
The multimedia educational presentation will prove worthwhile for
everyone involved in sports, including coaches, medical personnel,
athletes and parents. SLI's work has been well-documented in
several high-profile media outlets, including HBO: Real Sports,
ESPN, and 60 Minutes.
