Bowdoin Hosts Successful Girls & Women in Sports Day
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College hosted 173 girls, ages 5-17, in
their annual celebration of Girls and Women in Sports on Sunday,
February 14 at Farley Field House.
In what continues to be one of the banner events of the
College's sports calendar, young athletes were introduced to eight
different sports and taught by Polar Bear student-athletes.
"Molly Duffy, Shavonne Lord and Dana Riker were the student
coordinators," according to women's volleyball coach and Girls and
Women in Sports Day director Karen Corey. "This was their second
year organizing and they were dedicated to making it an excellent
event. They clearly succeeded in that endeavor."
Broken down into two sessions- an early session for younger
children and later session for older - the event featured
interactive participation in basketball, field hockey, lacrosse,
rugby, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. The event was free
to all participants.
