Field Hockey Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Division III Tournament

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament and have received a first-round bye in selections announced on Sunday night.

The Polar Bears (14-3), winners of three NCAA titles since 2007, will travel to Montclair (N.J.) State where they will face the winner of a Wednesday first-round game between William Smith (15-4) and New Paltz State (13-8) on Saturday, November 16. Montclair State (20-1), the top ranked team in Division III heading into the tournament, will play the winner of Mount Holyoke (17-2) and Gwynedd-Mercy (12-8).

Saturday's winners will play on Sunday, November 17 for a trip to the Division III "Final Four" in Virginia Beach, Va., November 22 and 24. Bowdoin, the NESCAC Tournament runners-up, are one of three NESCAC teams in the field, including Middlebury and Tufts.

Bowdoin won the NCAA Division III championship in 2007, '08 and '10. The Polar Bears are 16-2 in their last 18 NCAA Tournament games overall. This will be Bowdoin's 11th appearance in the national tournament.
