Rachel Kennedy Earns NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

Kennedy already ranks 10th all-time at Bowdoin with 29 career goals

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College sophomore Rachel Kennedy (Trumbull, Conn.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Kennedy scored Bowdoin's first two goals during an eight-minute span and assisted another goal in the first half, as the Polar Bears defeated Connecticut College 4-0 last Saturday. Kennedy leads Bowdoin and is second in the league with 14 goals and 33 points this season.

Appearing in ten games this season, the 2012 NESCAC Rookie of the Year has tallied at least one point eight of those contests. In Bowdoin's opening game against Wesleyan she scored a season high seven points on three goals and an assist. In less than two years, Kennedy has already cracked into the top ten for leading goal scorers at Bowdoin, tying with Emily LeVan (1991-94) and Leah McClure (1999-02) with 29 career goals.

It is the second weekly award for Kennedy, who received NESCAC Player of the Week recognition on Oct. 22 last season following a two-goal game against Trinity.

The Polar Bears are currently riding a nine-game winning streak going into their final regular season home match against Colby on Saturday. The Polar Bears are also looking to collect their 40th consecutive home win, dating back to 2010, and break the program record set between 2004-08. The Mules and Polar Bears are scheduled for a 11:00 a.m. start Saturday.
