Bowdoin Field Hockey Honored By NFHCA With Academic Team Award

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team has been recognized for its academic prowess in awards handed out by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

As a team, the Polar Bears earned the NFHCA's Division III National Academic Team Award for achieving a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 for the 2012-13 academic year. Additionally, eleven players were honored as members of the NFHCA National Academic Squad, recognizing individuals who surpassed a 3.30 GPA.

The individuals honored were Elena Crosley '13 (St. Louis, Mo.), Colleen Finnerty '15 (Hopkinton, Mass.), Hannah Gartner '15 (Reisterstown, Md.), Kim Kahnweiler '16 (Winnetka, Ill.), Rachel Kennedy '16 (Trumbull, Conn.), Kassey Matoin '13 (Springvale, Maine), Brooke Phinney '13 (Dedham, Mass.), Katie Riley '14 (Hingham, Mass.), Lauren Schroeder '14 (Milwaukee, Wis.), Emily Simonton '15 (Kennett Square, Pa.) and Cathleen Smith '13 (Larchmont, N.Y.).

The Polar Bears, who finished the 2012 season with a 16-4 record and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament, will open their 2013 campaign at home against Wesleyan on Saturday, September 8.
