BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will host a first round game Wednesday in selections announced Sunday evening.
Bowdoin (14-3) will host State University of New York at New Paltz (16-4) in an opening round game at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. Children under 2, as well as Bowdoin students with ID, will be admitted for free.
If victorious, the Polar Bears will advance to a regional at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y., where they will play 20th-ranked MIT, who received a first-round bye on Saturday, November 10.
Ranked among the top six teams in the NFHCA poll all season, the Polar Bears (14-3) have won three of the last five Division III Championships and finished their season as the runners-up in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Winners of the 2007, '08 and '10 Division III crowns, Bowdoin advanced to the National Semifinals last fall.
New Paltz has won ten consecutive matches, including a shootout win over Cortland State Saturday for its first-ever SUNYAC Championship.
William Smith College will host the Division III Final Four this season on November 17-18.
